So you want to make a tattoo on your back. But you're afraid that it runs out of trend or you wouldn't like it anymore in the future. Hey, why not create mehndi designs on your back instead?
If you've not heard of mehndi art, it's a form of body painting using a natural dye from a plant. Great thing is, it's only temporary, lasting between 1 to 4 weeks. Okay, actually depending on the quality of mehndi and how frequent it gets washed!
If you're unsure what mehndi is, it's a paste made from a plant called Lawsonia Inermis. It gives a natural red dye that could stain your skin when the leaves are bruised. Nature's cool right?
Wait, doesn't that sound like henna..?
Oh yes, mehndi is just the other term!
Henna art originates from the middle eastern region, where it is used to beautify brides on their wedding day. Usually applied on the night before the wedding as an additional decorations to the brides.
Recently it has been made popular due to the growth of the art industry and arising awareness of different forms of body art. Hold on, have I mentioned that it's temporary too?
"Great, now I can just use a henna paste and make any temporary tattoo by scribbling it on my body."
Although you could, modern designs or images like those used for tattoos are not well used in the mehndi body art. When henna is used, the typical traditional designs are most popular.
And how do they normally look like?
Indian mehndi art are typically made up of simple shapes, lines and designs. Generally the lines are finer than other cultures' and they prefer to fill most gaps, leaving less skin color exposed'. At times the art is made up from the Hindu religious influences and auspicious symbols.
However, making Indian mehndi on the back is not that popular. Simply because it just doesn't look as attractive on the back of the body compared to the hand or back of hand.
Anyone who has been to Morocco knows that geometric patterns and designs are one of their greatest pride. No questions asked when that is their source of motivation in creating great mehndi designs.
Normally it is applied with a bolder font and is quite popular for creating back mehndi.
Arabic versions are the most popular ones!
The Arabs simply loves floral. Be it art, fashion, even their temporary tattoos! Decorations of floral features are looked upon pleasing to the eye not only in the Arabic region, but also in the West.
Not only that, don't you realize flower patterns are also very popular amongst those who has real tattoos? Naturally it looks more appealing and attractive as to how real flowers catches the eye.
However, before making any mehndi designs on your back, ensure that you ask the henna artist on her abilities first. You wouldn't want to get excited over a design selected from the internet, only to know that that artist is unable to recreate them -Wouldn't you?
